Important Essential Fatty Child Growth

Different from adults, children in infancy require more fat. In the early days of life, a child needs a lot of essential fatty acids.

Children under the age of two years for example, 40 percent of its energy needs come from fat. As the development of the child, the need for reduced fat.


"Fat is useful for development of the child, especially essential fatty acids," explained Dr. Rini Sekartini of Indonesian Pediatric Association at a seminar titled 'The Importance of Essential Fats and Benefits for the Body' in Jakarta, Saturday, February 12, 2011.

According to Dr. Rini, essential fats are very important for child growth that is building a network of cells, helps absorption of nutrients, the performance of the body's nerves and hormones. The two essential fats are important during a child's growth is a fatty acid omega 3 and omega 6.

"Research on children shows the intake of omega-3 in children is still low compared to their needs. So the need to ensure intake of omega-3 from the foods kids love," he said.

In addition to genetic and environmental factors, development of the child influenced the intake of nutrients from the mother's womb. He revealed, studies have shown pregnant women who eat fish (omega 3 and 6) will affect intelligence and behavior of children. Another study states intake of essential fatty acids influence infant visual acuity.

It is necessary to introduce healthy eating in children early on. Balanced diet, reducing trans fat foods like fast food and fried food menu will help children grow optimally and away from obesity and disease into adulthood.
