Today Bakrie Telecom (banding) announced its initiative as the first telecom operator companies go green.
Through long-term initiative called 'Green For Affairs', the Company determined to integrate policies that favor the environment in all its business operations.
Through this initiative, in the early stages of banding will apply the 'green policy' internally and will gradually try to 'pass' to its partner companies.
"As a fast growing telecommunications operator, Bakrie Telecom realize the importance of taking prompt and concrete steps to reduce negative impacts on the environment," said President Director BTel Anindya Bakrie, at the launch of this initiative, in Blitz Megaplex Jakarta, Pacific Place, Thursday 5 November 2010.
According to Anindya, internally banding will reduce the use of natural resources (reduce), reuse of all materials (reuse), and recycling of electronic waste, paper and other materials (recycle).
BTel has invested more than Rp20 billion for environmentally friendly programs. Among other green office program that includes reducing the use of office paper, use of electricity, and water.
For energy consumption, the Company seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, by applying the cooling method that uses free cooling ventilation system in the towers of base stations, which can reduce electricity costs by 50 percent.
Not only that, the Company also make savings on the card voucher material, by replacing the plastic voucher card with a voucher card that smaller sized paper.
In addition, the Company also will make the recycling process against the former mobile-phone and 75 percent of network devices. "It is estimated there are more than 15 million mobile phones that become junk garbage every year," Anin said.
To support this initiative, next year BTel will apply environmentally friendly standards for its partners. "50 percent of capital expenditure banding will be used to buy from vendors who care about the environment. We're also going to increase this number in the future."
This environmental care initiatives have been pioneered by banding since a year ago, with the help of consultants Malk Sustainability Partner. For the success of this initiative, the Company formed the Green Team, which consists of managers who are appointed as the Green Project Leader.
Recently, the Company also joined the Global Initiative eSustainability (GeSI) is an organization of environmental protection influence the telematics industry (ICT), as the first ASEAN member. (Hs)
